American Cancer Society offers information about cancer and cancer-related topics. Also information on detection, prevention, alternative methods, and community resources. Can obtain written material by mail at no cost. Information also on events, programs, and services the ACS have available. The "need to talk to someone" is often cited by cancer patients. A professional counselor is available by referral to provide short term counseling to patients, families, and caregivers who want to discuss the impact cancer is having on their lives and want assistance coping with those issues. Referrals to other resources in the community will be made as appropriate.
