Who We Are
Piedmont Geriatric Hospital is a 135-bed geropsychiatric hospital, operated by the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). It is the only Virginia state facility that exclusively treats elderly persons who are 65 years or older. The elderly must be in need of inpatient treatment for mental illness, meet the requirements for voluntary or involuntary admission as determined by their mental health center (CSB) and do not have a medical condition that requires priority treatment in an acute health care setting. This agency is handicapped accessible.
As a state-operated psychiatric hospital, this agency does not have any State licensure requirements. The hospital is accredited by The Joint Commission.
