Who We Are
Central Virginia Alliance for Community Living (CVACL) offers several transportation services for people who are 60 and older and those between 18-59 who have a disability. All transportation programs begin with an assessment. After contacting the intake specialist at 434-385-9070, you will be assigned to a case manager. The case manager will contact you within 15 business days to schedule a time to assess your needs, ensure you are eligible for the service, and enroll you in the program. Once enrolled, you will receive a letter in the mail listing the services for which you were approved. At that time you can schedule your rides at least one week in advance.
Dial-A-Ride provides individuals aged 60 and over with transportation to medical appointments, medical care (Dialysis, physical therapy, counseling), pharmacies, and grocery stores. Wheelchair-accessible vans are available. Because Medicaid provides medical transportation, individuals with that coverage are not eligible for CVACL medical transportation (but may qualify for non-Medicaid eligible appointments). Transportation is provided on a first-come-first-served basis.
New Freedom Transportation is named after what it provides. The program allows adults 21 years old and older who are living with a disability the “new freedom” of transportation to medical appointments, pharmacies, and grocery stores. This non-emergency transportation system is operated in conjunction with the Dial-A-Ride program and follows all of the same guidelines.
